The air was just getting chilly outside when I was standing on the crossroad, where I had to decide whether or not to continue developing the product I’ve built with such a great ambition.

Frankly, I believe that it’s LUCK that truly completes a success.

Of course, most of the accomplishments are results of endless effort. However I can’t deny the fact that the so-called “jackpots” are not solely made out of pure efforts but some luck as well.

Sadly this argument can “encourage” those who are nothing but lazy and cynical. What good would my efforts do when all the accomplishments in this world come from luck?

But no, I’m not saying that efforts are useless.

Effort is the prerequisite of luck.

As Steve Jobs (the Great) once said, we need to keep drawing the dots. Dots that are large, clear, and enough that some of them can be connected to one another. Some dots do more than just being connected to other ones, and take me to a whole new space. That’s why it’s so important to have as various experiences and challenges as possible. To DRAW the dots. There could never be any luck without actions taken.

Jobs put it as “dots”, but another appropriate analogy would be “doors”. We need to keep building doors. No one knows what’s out there of course, but at least we’ll be able to here the knock when an opportunity makes a visit.

Doors, dots, whatever you call it, the point is that anything that you do with such purpose can(no, certainly will) be connected to one another and eventually take you to somewhere new, much more promising. So it’s all about creating as many combinations of experiences as possible.

This is the attitude I’ve been having since quite a long time ago.
